Google Translate
The greatest potential threat to human translations is without a doubt Google Translate. So we put it to the ultimate test. As you can tell it did relatively well in Spanish (though it missed some key words), but the Japanese and Chinese translations were very hard to understand. Google Translate can detect abbreviations, grammar and names, which most other tools cannot do. It did however have difficulties when translating those back into English. Google is constantly developing new innovative tools in order to expand and improve on its services, including automatic email translations, translations by hovering over words, option to "contribute a better translation" after getting a completed translation, and translation memory tools. If you simply MUST use a machine translation, you probably can't do any better than Google.
