Getting Started with the API

Using the API is straightforward - just follow these steps to get going without any bumps.

 

1. Get a sandbox account

See this page for a full explanation of the sandbox. You will need to create a separate user account on the sandbox, and create API keys on the sandbox to connect your app. Live mygengo.com accounts won't work on the sandbox, and vice versa.

2. Generate sandbox API keys

Log into the sandbox to get access to your API keys page, then generate your first set of keys to paste into your code. For the calls you make, set your API call URL to http://api.sandbox.mygengo.com/v1/. See our First Steps page for more info.

3. Download a client library

We've created libraries for most major programming languages. Download yours so that you don't have to deal with the nitty gritty. Check out the README and comments in the library zip to find your way.

4. Check out the docs, and get coding!

Use our method reference, callback instructions and payloads info, and start testing your app.

Ready to deploy?

When you've tested your app, now's the time to create a live account and switch your keys. You're nearly there.

 

1. Create a live myGengo.com account

You need a live myGengo account to work with the live site (your sandbox login won't work).

2. Generate live API keys

Log in and visit your account API settings page to generate your live set of keys to paste into your code. Change your API call URL to the live API address: http://api.mygengo.com

3. Buy credits

Add credits to your account, so that you can order human translation. You can pay via PayPal or credit card, and there are bonus credits for larger order amounts.
